Day 2.0
Gibran went on his own way and Kait and I were left to our own devices for the day! We decided to head down to the Holland House down in Richmond to watch some of the Olympics. When we got there we were told that the wait would be about 7 hours to get in – 7 hours! We didn't believe it either so we decided to line up anyways and show them whose boss.. Unfortunately, they won – it was pouring in Richmond and was way too cold for us to wait longer than the hour that we did. We decided to head back to the mall to warm up for a bit so we could decide what our next plan of action would be.
We ended up finding a TV in the mall – yes you heard it right! This ended up being one of the stand-out moments of the weekend for sure! We watched the women's prelim moguls - little did we know this would make us seem pretty smart later on in the night. After the mogul prelims the women's hockey game (Canada vs. Slovakia) was on and we watched Canada annihilate them 18-0. After realizing that spending 5 hours in a mall during the Olympics was probably lame we decided to meet up with some of my friends for some more Olympicing in a more conventional way.
We wound up at a local pub in Richmond where we watched the finals for women's moguls. By this point in time Kait and I knew all the female athletes to watch out for in the medal event and were talking like we knew EVERYTHING about moguls. Picture this: Jenn Heil – up for her race – the American before her just wiped out pretty bad and Jenn nailed her run in the prelims. We were all holding hands in the pub – complete silence – watching her do her run. SHE NAILED IT! It put her in first place everyone was cheering in the pub and it was amazing (there may have been some tears from yours truly). A few moments later Hannah had an outstanding performance and put us in a silver position. Heartbreaking? A little bit but we were still so proud of Jenn! If only she could have heard us cheering for her.
We finished up at the pub and went back to Richmond O-zone for round two – hopefully there would be better luck this time around! We ended up seeing a little bit of Hey Ocean and a full concert from Bedouin Soundclash. Although there were a few kicks in the head by 13 year old body surfers it was a pretty fun night with some great music. After the concert we headed back to Kitsilano to my friend Lisa's work (Brown's social house) where we had a few drinks prior to heading home for the night!
