#13 –Be part of a flash mob

Part one of four
Last night was the first practice for the Olympic torch flash mob! Although it wasn’t at all what I expected I know it’s going to be pretty epic. We had about 150 out of the 400 people that we needed so it was hard to get the whole effect of what this is going to look like in the end. I’m really crossing my fingers that we will get enough people to do it though, it’s a promising routine. I’m working hard at recruiting more people but I find it challenging to get people to actually commit to it. It shouldn’t be that hard – it’s a once in a lifetime experience!
Goal of the flash mob: make the video go viral (which it definitely will). The music is this really corny down red neck roots Canadian music which makes it that much more hilarious. The people attending the torch relay are going to be in for quite the surprise if everything turns out – hopefully they don’t get caught in the middle!
As for any more updates, I have to keep it on the DL. We are sworn to secrecy!

Part two of four
Today was our second practice for the flash mob and we had a few more people show up but we still need way more people! It’s been a tough go getting people to commit to doing the flash mob. I guess it’s hard for people to step outside their comfort zone and participate in a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m going to keep working at getting people to commit to the flash mob because we so desperately need 400 people.
Today we started seeing the routine come together. A little more of the design was starting to fill up so we could all see the progression of the show coming together. Some of the ‘new’ people had a hard time doing the routine to the music but hopefully the organizers will catch that at out last get together.
This weekend I almost had the opportunity to talk meet an Olympian (one of the 100 things I would like to do before I die) but definitely chickened out and didn’t have a camera to document the moment. I thought everyone should be able to see some pictures of our crazy adventures! Anyways, this week coming up is going to be a whirlwind of checking things off our list. Kait comes into Vancouver in approximately 5 days which is wicked! I think it will be a good opportunity to continue adding to our list. If we finish compiling our ideas maybe I’ll post it for everyone to read – then we’ll really be held accountable for achieving our goals!

Quote from Curious Case of Benjamin Button (thought it was suitable for the way I’m feeling): Your life is defined by its opportunities... even the ones you miss.

Part Three of Four
Last night was the final practice for the flash mob. We didn’t quite have 400 but we were pretty darn close! Basically it’s going to be unreal. It was really nice to see the shapes coming together – we really had a chance to see the whole effect.
Tomorrow is the big day! I will post the video as soon as we get access to it. Stay tuned!

Part Four of Four
Last night was the Olympic torch relay and we performed our flash mob! It didn’t go over as well as we had hoped because we really didn’t have enough time to make sure our lines were straight or anything. Here is the unedited version of the mob: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny0Hw3akAC0

The first shape is supposed to be UBC, definitely didn’t work out very well. Then we did the Canada flag, the Olympic rings, Canada flag and some dancing. If you look really hard you might be able to see them but you really have to know what you are looking at!
